Martin Luther King Day: Teaching Black History (Slavery and Civil Rights)

I presented a short power point presentation about slavery, Harriet Tubman, MLK, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X. After the presentation the students were able to reinforce their new knowledge of the subject and the vocabulary by answering questions, doing word searches and word jumbles. We also created a hallway display of quotes, signs, and pictures from the Civil Rights Movement. During the next couple of weeks we will continue with the topic of Black History exploring the Harlem Renaissance and famous, more recent African American personalities. Teaching is fun! ;)

P.S. One of my teachers was shocked when discovering that Black History Month was an entire MONTH....
